I just listened to tonight's programme. There was much discussion amongst the self-evidently monarchy supporting parish councillors about the jubilee beacon, jubilee procession etc. etc. etc.

Where was a counter argument or dissenting voice from the republican side of things? The BBC is required to be fair and balanced.

The Archers represents village and rural life and the majority of people who live in such places are pro-monarchy.

I have lived most of my life in such places and have yet to meet a republican.

Where I live, we have great plans for the Jubilee Celebrations, just like Ambridge and everyone is really looking forward to it.

If every event in the Archers had to have a 'counter argument or dissenting voice' in order to be 'fair and balanced' then the series would become pointless.

It's a show, entertainment not a current affairs discussion programme.

I daresay there are folk out there who will not take part in Jubilee Celebrations which is their decision in our free country but I suspect the majority of the population will take part and Ambridge reflects that.

Personally, I think there's been quite enough radicalism/political correctness on The Archers already (Helen's Donor Insemination, Vicar marries Hindu)without the programme become a platform for Republican debates in this Jubilee Year. Lots of villages will be having Jubilee celebrations, I expect.

I did wonder where Jim's comments were. He was heard to murmur in the background but in reality I think he would've had quite a bit to say on the subject!

It's a pity people take this as a request for a debate on the monarchy, it's merely an observation that the BBC is completely ignoring and side stepping the views of a large minority of the population. It wouldn't be tolerated to leave gays or coloured people out for editorial reasons - so it shouldn't be tolerated to leave out republicans. Balance and fairness is all that is required.

We are all very pro the dear old Queen down here. We are particularly pleased with her support for the family and the Church. I also suspect she is much happier now we have a proper government and that awful Blair and the other one have gone. What an appalling mess they made of things. Mrs Duffy was quite right, we have been overrun by foreigners (Poles mostly, how did that happen?) and our children are now destined to have a life of unemployment..... Thanks for expanding the EU Tony, nice one, you really thought that through!
Anyway back to the queen, we all love her and think "republicans" should go back to where they came from.
