  • Adam and Ian, a most moving episode

Thank you script writers for treating us to such touching depictions of their tender relationship.
I would hate to think that other characters are being neglected just to provide us with this feast.
Of course it is possible that the limelight shone on the two pals' intimacy is just a foil to emphasise the impending tragedy of Adam's relapse and demise. How awful that would be.
  • Ambridge Extra????

    Hello
Does anyone know if there will be a new series of Ambridge extra? I thought there was supposed to be one this spring, but haven't seen any sign of it as yet.

Whilst gripping plotlines unfold and keep us on the edge of our seats, my disbelief can't remain suspended whenever I hear Linda Snell 'sneezing'. Please, scriptwriters, only inflict silent ailments on her in future.

Yes, well Usha should have at least told Alan, but hindsight is a wonderful thing and I can't help feeling a little sorry for her because she now has Alan and Amy ranged against her. Is this the first crack in a marriage made in heaven (and of course, whatever the Hindu equivalent is)?

Amy, as a good Christian girl, you're going to HAVE to forgive Usha, you know, as I'm sure your dad will tell you...

I just wanted to congratulate the Archers team for a terrific episode last night. The writing was great and so was the acting. Angela Piper deserves a special mention, what a roller coaster ride of emotions, I was with her all the way. From her heartfelt plea to Debbie to come home, through to her relief when Adam finally woke up. I had tears in my eyes and am welling up now thinking about it. It just goes to show what quality drama The Archers really is. I am a relative newcomer, only been listening for 18 years but nothing could stop me from listening,I really am an addict.
    Well done to everyone involved!

  • Adam - ABI (aquired Brain Injury)

Posted over 14 days ago.  Added 30/04/2012 14:29:41 by jillhodg
I do hope that if Adam regains consciousness, the script writers do not have him back working. I do hope they use this opportunity of highlighting someone with brain injury. As a relative of someone who had a ABI 13 years ago, I only know too well the problems it brings long term although the person looks perfectly normal. Still I expect they will kill him off which will be less complicated and they can turn him into a hero donating his organs.
  • Is now the right time to turn off the machine?

We have all been rooting for Adam, praying that he would pull through and come out of his coma. But surely we should now face up to the inevitable and accept that he's not coming back to us. I'm sure if we could ask him he'd say "turn me off and use my good bits to help save others".
So can we have him turned off soon please? Ian must be given time to grieve.

I thought Friday's episode was beautifully written. The actor playing Ian succeded in making me very emotional which is something I dosen't happen very often!I've often though Adam was so lucky to have him as a partner and yet Ian makes it clear that he is very lucky to have Adam. I only hope that the writers, with his life in their hands don't send him the same way as Nigel.
  • Life On Farms?

Posted over 14 days ago.  Added 28/04/2012 12:15:13 by CaptainSwing
I have an idea for a spin-off series. Adam "wakes up" to find that apparently he's gone back to 1973. Homw Farm is being run by Farmer Hunt, who shoots trespassers and poachers on sight, in order to keep the countryside "safe for decent law-abiding people to enjoy." However, through his television set, he keeps hearing his mother's voice seeping through from the present day, beseeching "Daaarling!" and decides in the end that he's better off staying unconcious.

  • I think we've all understood the megadairy arguments by now, can we be allowed to move on ?

Posted over 14 days ago.  Added 17/04/2012 22:50:35 by PCCMember
Turning on the wireless at 7.00 pm is becoming rather like meeting a friend in the street who you know is going to pin you to the wall while they go over their well rehearsed troubles, the ones they have told you about ten times before. If only you could say "I have understood, now talk about something else for a bit" but we are all too polite and nod and hum in the right places. Next time we try to cross the road before they see us, or in the case of the Archers we don't switch on.
Pat and Ruth are boringly vehemently anti, the BL board have well rehearsed arguments highlighting ALL the issues.
Are we, the listeners, going to be sitting a written test at the end of this storyline? Is there a prize? As for Tony and Adam, enough said.
Did I hear Pat say to Tony "stay in bed, it's Sunday, you have nothing to get up for"........... her husband is only one car backfire away from his maker.......... Not the time to avoid St Stephen's perhaps.

  • Pat Archer - Arch Hypocrite

I couldn't believe my ears to hear Pat Archhypocrite complaining at the end of tonight's episode "Typical Brian - straight to the media." She seemed to find nothing wrong with opponents of the scheme "going to the media" when the Echo was printing its' "anti" stories. I've always thought there were 2 things I didn't like about Pat - her face.

Thank you TomForrest for that - and you have given me an idea -

Why not, 'Slurry - the musical adventures of everyday farming folk'
What songs could we assign to people?

I will survive for Chris and Alice is a good suggestion and how about these:-

Tragedy - The Bridge Farm family
Hard Days Night - David and Ruth Archer
    Big Spender - Brian Aldridge
Born this Way - Henry Archer
Stand by your man - Usha
    Poker Face - Lynda Snell

    Any more......

  • Worried about the BVD plotline

Posted over 14 days ago.  Added 14/04/2012 14:35:10 by mikko
Now that Ruth's cows are being ravaged by BVD I see a devilish new "kill two birds with one stone" storyline starting to develop. Ambridge wants to have a load of bonfires (or "beacons") to celebrate the diamond jubilee so I can see them stacking up the dead cows and burning them off - just like back in the days of foot and mouth disease. It is most worrying.

I know this might sound harsh but yet more bad luck at Bridge Farm and once again they dominate the story lines.

Fed up of hearing Tony (woe is me) and the ghastly and selfish Tom and Helen.

Can someone deal with Bridge Farm?
Can Brian build his mega dairy over the top?
Can Henry be given a chemistry set and accidently blow the place up?

And in the meantime can we pretend it doesn't exist? Please...

I have to get this off my chest. Vicky has some cheek criticising Jim for reverting to his pre-Lent behaviour. She, along with Susan and Clarie certainly never even managed a minute without gossiping.
  • Best Available Archers Episode

Posted over 14 days ago.  Added 12/04/2012 16:17:37 by Jonny
Hi I wonder if someone here may be able to help me.

I would like to use an episode of the Archers as an introduction to a school project where my students make their own radio play.

I wonder if people could please offer suggestions as to which episodes would be the most exciting and relevant for teenagers? I guess something involving one of the younger characters would be ideal.

I have thought about Pip missing that exam and then her boyfriend went off travelling without her. But I would really like something more excting, perhaps with a death or really exciting cliffhanger?

I had thought of using the anniversary special but the whole sperm donor storyline could be a bit controversial for some of the students and lead to discussion on topics outside of the writing a radio play remit!

Then someone has told me about the Ambridge Extra episodes which are just about the younger characters, but I have never heard them. Perhaps these would be better but I have no idea about them.

I know there are other radio plays out there which teenagers they might enjoy more but I listen to the Archers and also all the making of the Archers programs on youtube can be used to supplement the project.

If anyone could help and advise me of the episode number and where I migth be able to obtain it from, I would be most grateful.

    Many thanks,
    Jon

Jolene seems to be the only character in The Archers without a birthday listed in any books, diaries or calenders. Does anyone know what the date of her birthday is? I am sure that there must have been scenes over the years involving tlk about her birthday. If she does not have a birthday perhaps we should choose on for her. How about February 29th?
  • How Tony can fill his days.

Posted over 14 days ago.  Added 04/04/2012 19:28:05 by PCCMember
Assuming the script writers aren't going to do the decent thing Tony is going to need to fill his endless days.
I would make the following recommendations........firstly stay in bed until about 10.00, Then you can either watch "Homes Under The Hammer" or "Jeremy Kyle" on ITV+1.
Try the Telegraph Crossword or get in to Sudoko to keep the brain active.
Giving useful guidance to the family, Tom needs the input of a more experienced entrepreneur and Pat might appreciate his ideas on how to improve the efficiency of doing the housework (I know Mrs PCCMember always welcomes my tips about how to do things around the house).
Then there's the world online, that should shut him up for a while.
Of course although it may seem harsh my preferred option would be to spare us years of Tony self pity and have the script writers kill him off sooner rather than later........ He's reached a happy plateau in his life so it may be a good time.
Now who is available for Pat? Must be some nice 'green' type for here amongst her organic friends!

I repeat - can we have a bit less Bridge Farm and more of the rest, especially Jim's compliments because we are moving into the final week of Lent!
